These arks are a good example of the ever popular half round design. The basic design consists of a steel frame to which the plywood ends are bolted with a galvanised steel roof attached. The roof contains a layer of insulating material which is sandwiched between two layers of corrugated steel sheets. These arks are nine feet wide and four feet 10 inches front to back. The roof is three feet seven inches high at the top of the curve. The front and rear panels have been repaired and strengthened where necessary so are now in good condition and will give many years of service. As can be seen from the photos, the offset doorway has runners at each side which allow a plywood door to be dropped in to keep the pigs locked in or out as required. When not in use, it is stowed in another set of runners on the front of the hut. There is also a rear inspection/ventilation hatch which can be moved up and down and by using a chain can be set to the desired height.
It should be noted that like all the equipment that we sell, these huts were designed for commercial pig units. The specification, design and build quality far exceeds many of the new build products that are available to smallholders. Even bought second hand, these huts will have a far longer useful life. |
